Thermal analysis of buried submarine power cables

High-voltage submarine power cables are used extensively in offshore energy. To mitigate risks associated with laying power cables on the seabed, cables are typically buried in the top layer of sediment. To ensure cable integrity is maintained, the safe working operating temperature of the cable must not be exceeded. Therefore, careful consideration of the potential effects of the sedimentary environment on the cable’s thermal response must be made.

AgileTek Engineering has adopted the Finite Element Method to determine the sensitivity of various submarine cables’ transient and steady-state operating temperatures to a range of sedimentary conditions. Click here to read more.
